08 Saul to Paul

08 Saul to Paul

Saul to Paul

Being Filled with the Holy Spirit

Acts 13:4-12

The Context

The two began their missionary journey, bring Barnabas’ nephew, John Mark with them.

The isle of Paphos

This was the seat of worship of the goddess Venus

Kings from all over came to consult her oracle

Every woman of Cyprus was expected to submit herself, once in her life, to the filthy service of the temple

The false prophet

His name was Barjesus “The Son of Jesus” imagining himself to be antichrist

He did everything he could to keep the deputy from the faith

The judicial blindness

Paul calls this man out and tells him he is a child of the devil

God struck this man with blindness

The deputy received salvation

Saul to Paul

When God changes a name in the Bible it shows a turning point in their life

Abraham, Sarah, Jacob – all these came to a place of full surrender in their lives

As Paul completely emptied himself, God filled Paul with the Holy Spirit

Being Filled with the Holy Spirit is a Definite Experience

Luke 24:49 – Jesus told the disciples to wait until they received the Holy Spirit

Acts 19:2 – Paul asked a person if they were currently filled with the Holy Spirit expecting a “yes” or “no” answer

Being Filled with the Holy Spirit is Separate From His Regenerating Work

Acts 1:5

Being Filled with the Spirit is Always Connected with Testimony and Service

Being filled with the Holy Spirit is not for cleansing of sin

There Are Diversities of the Spirit – I Corinthians 12:1-11

When this truth isn’t realized and people expect filling is for “preaching” then there is:

Disappointment

Presumption

Indifference

Jesus was filled with the Spirit and it was a Definite Experience

Acts 10:38; Luke 3:21, 22; 4:1, 14, 15, 18, 21
