The Lord Rolled the Reproach Off You

Joshua 5:1-12

Vs. 1. There was no opposition from the inhabitants of the land to the crossing of the Israelites. This allowed them to take time to prepare for the future victories by obeying God’s plain commands.

Circumcision – Showing they Belonged to the Lord vs. 1-9

Circumcision is a special medical procedure done to the males, to physically show they are the Lord’s and separate unto Him.

This was a physical sign that started with Abraham and his family. From this time on it was something for the descendants of Abraham to do to show they are physically separate unto the Lord.

It had not been observed for 40 years, to allow those who were over 20 when they escaped Egypt to pass and a new generation prepared to follow the Lord and receive the victory God promised them.

Before they can enjoy the promises of God, the males had to go through this procedure in obedience to His Word.

Passover – Showing They Trusted in the Blood vs. 10

It was against the law to allow uncircumcised people to observe the Passover.

The Passover was a special holiday/meal that reminded the children of Israel that night when every first born was under the sentence of death, unless the blood was applied.

Corn – Showing the First Victories in their New Life vs. 11-12

Most of the people now had been raised on manna. Some of them had never been exposed to different food. After the passover the manna ceased and the people now had to live off the fruits of the land. God provided corn that they didn’t work for to enjoy. To feed all the people it required 1,500 tons or 150 box cars of food to feed them. They now live by their own faith.
