Pass Over Jordan

Joshua 3

Canaan land is a picture of the victorious Christian Life. The Jordan represents God crossing us over into the victorious Christian life. This passage can be applied to the victories we expect to receive in Christ.

Preparation to Pass Over Jordan vs 1-6

It began with Joshua rising early. Discipline is necessary to follow the Lord.

The leadership went through to relay the message to the people to make sure everyone was reached.

The people were not told how they were to pass, only that they were.

They were commanded to follow the ark of the covenant when it passed. They were also told to keep their distance, because they never went this way before.

The final instruction was to sanctify themselves, or make sure they are right with the Lord, because God was going to do a miracle.

As we expect God to give victories, we need to insure we are right with the Lord.

Instruction for Passing Over Jordan vs 7-13

God was putting His stamp of approval by preforming this miracle.

The priests were to stand in the water this time before it parted, then stand still. This was different from the Red Sea crossing because the water was parted before the people approached it.

Priest Leading Passing Over Jordan vs 14-17

The priest stepped into the water. When they did, the water gathered as a heap by the city of Adam, which was 16 miles away to the north. This caused resisted all throughout the Jordan river valley to faint (quit).
