It was placed on an isthmus and could carry ships and cargo around the isthmus to the seas on either side.<\/p>\n<p>It was so identified with drunkenness and defiling sexual sins that it was a common phrase in the Greek language \u201cto do the Corinthian\u201d meaning to be drunken and sin sexually.<\/p>\n<p>Paul is now in Ephesus when we received word of what is going on in the Corinthian church.<\/p>\n<p>People had come and gave him a verbal record and the Corinthians church had written asking Paul how to deal with several of the problems within the church.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Three Classifications of Man<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Natural man<\/em> \u2013 the unsaved man<\/p>\n<p>They cannot understand spiritual things<\/p>\n<p><em>Spiritual man<\/em> \u2013 the saved man who is dead to self<\/p>\n<p>They have the mind of Christ and are spiritually discerning<\/p>\n<p><em>Carnal man<\/em> \u2013 the saved man who lives by his flesh<\/p>\n<p>Because he is not obedient to the \u201cbasic\u201d things in the Christian life, he cannot understand the meatier things in God\u2019s word.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Rebuking of the Church<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The members of the church were saved, born again, however they were living from the flesh. This was causing all the problems in the church.<\/p>\n<p>They had divisions<\/p>\n<p>Failed to separate from sin,<\/p>\n<p>Failed to exercise church discipline<\/p>\n<p>Failed to take care of their pastor,<\/p>\n<p>They were disorderly in the Lord\u2019s Supper,<\/p>\n<p>Disorderly in the spiritual gifts<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Reproof is always for correcting behavior and should always be done from love<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What Can Be Done About A Carnal Church?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Remind them of the gospel 15:1-4<\/p>\n<p>Remind them there is a resurrection day 15:10-20<\/p>\n<p>Remind them to die to self 15:31<\/p>\n<p>Remind them to guard their tongues 15:33<\/p>\n<p>Remind them souls need to be won 15:34<\/p>\n<p>Remind them there is victory in Jesus<\/p>\n<p>15:57-58<\/p>\n<p>Encourage them to keep giving 16:1-2<\/p>\n<p>Get addicted to the ministry 16:15<\/p>\n<p>Beware of those that don\u2019t love the Lord 16:22<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I Corinthians &#8211; Rebuking the Carnal Man I Corinthians 2:12-3:3 Historical Context Paul had spent 1 year and 6 months ministering in Corinth Corinth was a very world, rich city.
