{"id":510,"date":"2017-05-28T20:43:27","date_gmt":"2017-05-28T20:43:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.brnsermons.com\/scottybackhaus\/?post_type=ctc_sermon&#038;p=510"},"modified":"2017-06-13T20:44:56","modified_gmt":"2017-06-13T20:44:56","slug":"12-silas-a-chief-man-among-the-brethren","status":"publish","type":"ctc_sermon","link":"https:\/\/brnsermons.com\/scottybackhaus\/sermons\/12-silas-a-chief-man-among-the-brethren\/","title":{"rendered":"12 Silas a Chief Man Among the Brethren"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong><em>Silas a Chief Man Among the Brethren<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Acts 15:22-34<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Silvanus, better known to us as Silas<\/p>\n<p>He was a Jewish convert who was also a Roman citizen.<\/p>\n<p>He was referred to seven times in Acts, 3 epistles of Paul and one from Peter<\/p>\n<p>He was a man used by God to help support Paul and spread the gospel to the world.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Acts 15:22<\/p>\n<p>This is the introduction of Silas, already a leader in the Jerusalem church.<\/p>\n<p>He was sent to Antioch to confirm the decision of the Jerusalem council<\/p>\n<p>His partner was Barsabas, the brother of the possible replacement disciple in Acts<\/p>\n<p>Acts 15:32<\/p>\n<p>Silas is shown to be a preacher of the word of God, and helped people not only to know the Lord but follow the Lord<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Acts 15:34<\/p>\n<p>The church at Antioch had young converts on fire for the Lord. Even when his partner left to go home, he felt a need to stay and help this young church anyway he could.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Acts 15:40<\/p>\n<p>After the disagreement with Barnabas, Silas had a good testimony that Paul thought him a good partner for the ministry. He made himself available<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Acts 16:19<\/p>\n<p>Paul was now traveling with a missionary team, however Silas was so much in the forefront helping Paul, that he was arrested with Paul<\/p>\n<p>Acts 16:25<\/p>\n<p>Even in pain, he and Paul sang praises at midnight, so loud the other prisoners heard them<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Acts 17:14-15<\/p>\n<p>Silas stayed behind in Berea while Paul escaped, still willing to face danger for the gospel\u2019s sake.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He continued to travel with Paul.
