The Story of Job<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Job<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Man <\/strong>(1:1-5)<\/p>\n

Job was a righteous man<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Discussion <\/strong>(1:6-12)<\/p>\n

Satan hates God is continually doing everything he can to erode God\u2019s authority and the worship of God.<\/p>\n

God knows everyone\u2019s heart and thoughts including Satan. Before Satan could speak, God was already answering Satan\u2019s objection. The understanding of Satan\u2019s claim was that the only reason people worship God is because God blesses them. If God was to take away the blessings, then the people would cure God.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Loss <\/strong>(1:13-22)<\/p>\n

Right after another, Job received the bad news of his losses. First his servants are all killed, then his wealth and possessions are destroyed then his children die<\/p>\n

Still Job worshipped the Lord<\/p>\n

The Appeal <\/strong>(2:1-6)<\/p>\n

Satan went again, to press his point. If you take away a man\u2019s health, then that man could curse God.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Disease<\/strong> (2:7-8)<\/p>\n

So Job\u2019s health was affected with a horrible disease. Even then Job still did not accuse God<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Wife<\/strong> (2:9-10)<\/p>\n

Satan was not finished. Even though he is not mentioned in the rest of the book, he is still working to help discourage Job and get him to curse God.<\/p>\n

Nothing can be a bigger discouragement then a wife. In this case, she still loved her husband. She has suffered all these things too. It was because she loved him that she wanted his suffering to stop.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Friends<\/strong> (2:11-31)<\/p>\n

Then Job\u2019s friends came to \u201ccheer\u201d him up. For seven days they sat in silence. Then the discussions began. The friends base their argument on a \u201cspiritual experience\u201d Eliphaz has on the way to see Job (4:12-21) After this experience, Eliphaz tells his friends and they agree together on Job\u2019s problem. Basically the argument is that Job must have done something wrong he hasn\u2019t repented of. God would never be a mean God and allow the suffering without a cause. If Job would just get right God would bless him again. Job responds that he is a sinner, but at the moment there is no unconfessed sin.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Know It All<\/strong> (32-37)<\/p>\n

After the five rounds of speeches, a young Bible college student answers. He is full of pride and uses the word \u201cI\u201d often.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Questions <\/strong>(38-41)<\/p>\n

After the speeches are over, God finally answers. As God speaks God asks a series of 84 questions that none of these men answer.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Answer<\/strong> (42:1-6)<\/p>\n

The basic answer to all these questions is God. And Jobs response was to humble himself and worship God.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Prayer<\/strong> (42:7-10)<\/p>\n

At the end, God told Job\u2019s friends that God wanted Job to pray for them. Still at this point, Job\u2019s health was still failing, his children still dead, his finances still gone, and the discouragements still in place, so how could he pray to God? Because he could still see God was truly God in the good times and the bad.<\/p>\n

It was as he prayed for others in the midst of his trials that God turned around and blessed him<\/p>\n

The Blessing <\/strong>(42:11-17)<\/p>\n
