Judges 14
The Roar of the Lion vs. 1-7
Samson desired to marry one of the local Philistine girls. His parents attempted to talk him out of it, but God had plans to use this circumstance for His purposes.
On the way to arrange the wedding, Samson encountered a lion. He had to weapons to fight, and the lion was young it seemed like a losing battle. However, the Spirit of God filled him, and he rent the lion apart.
The Riddle of Samson vs. 8-17
As the wedding was settled and arranged, he took a detour to see the lion carcass. When he arrived, he saw the lion filled with honey. He took some and ate, then have same to his parents.
At the wedding feast, several young men began to talk with him. Samson put forth a riddle to them, betting on a change of garments for each of them.
After seven days, the young men grew desperate and threatened Samson’s new wife to get the answer. Finally, she cried and cried, breaking him down. He finally told her the answer and see in turn told the young men.
The Reward of the Men vs. 18-20
The men correctly answered the riddle, but Samson knew how it was done. He went out and killed 30 Philistines and took their clothes and gave it to the men.
Samson went back to his father’s house, and his wife was married to another.
The Reminder from the Riddle
A lion was a being that wanted to devour Samson. Instead of being devoured, Samson received a blessing.
