To Prove Israel

Judges 3:1-11

The Purpose of the Test vs. 1-4

As the generations came, there arose a generation that did not participate in the fighting.

God allowed this trial for a couple of reasons: 1) To see if they would obey God’s commandments, and 2) to teach them to fight

We are engaged in a spiritual warfare. In this war, we don’t fight against flesh and blood. Our enemies are the world, the flesh and the devil.

The world attempts to corrupt and conform us. I John 2:15-17. To fight against this enemy, we must renew our minds. Romans 12:1-2

The flesh is a constant battle. Until we win this battle, we don’t even start any battles with Satan. Galatians 5:16-17

The other enemy we have is Satan. To stand against Him we put on the whole armor of God. Ephesians 6

The Failing of the Test vs. 5-8

The children of Israel lived with the Canaanites and developed their customs, made marriages with them, then begin to serve other gods. The failed the fights against the world (they were conformed), the flesh (they gave in to what the flesh wanted) and the devil (they forgot about God).

The result was they were put in bondage to make them look up to God.

The Deliverance from the Test vs. 9-11

God sent the first judge, Othniel, Caleb’s nephew.
