Judges 19

Time With the Father-In-Law vs. 1-10

A man had a concubine that left him, and went back to her father’s house. He chased her down and reconciled with her. Her father keep asking him to stay for days, and finally the man insisted that they leave.

 

Time Lodging in Gibeah vs. 11-21

The man, his concubine and servants left, knowing that evening was approaching.

The servant suggested in stopping at Jebus (later called Jerusalem). The master passed, no wanting to stay with Gentiles. They traveled on to the Israelites city of Gibeah.

While there, they couldn’t find any lodging. They decided to stay in the street.

An older man say them and invited them into his house.

 

Time With the World and No Saviour vs. 22-30

While they were fellowshipping, the men of the city demanded the old man released the visitor. Instead the concubine was sent out.

They ravished her all night. They finally released her and she crawled her way to the door. When the morning arose, the man woke up and got dressed and prepared to go. He saw her body lying there and told her to get up, but she was already dead.

There was a time in the night, that she was alive. There was a time she could have been helped, however the man was sleeping, then going about his day, not concerned over her.

This was an outrage, so he cut her up and sent it to all the corners of Israel. This is going to spark a civil war in the next chapter.
