Jehovah Ra’ah, The LORD is my Shepherd
Psalm 23
The terms shepherd, sheep and lamb are used 100 times throughout scripture
When we get saved, God becomes our Great Shepherd, Who takes care of us and provides for us like sheep.
The emphasis should always be on the Great Shepherd (He) not on the other parts
- 1 The Shepherd is our sufficiency (II Cor 9:6-8)
- 2a The Shepherd gives us rest – Matthew 11:28-29
- 2b The Shepherd leads us – Our submission to Him to allow the Lord to guide our lives
- 3a The Shepherd restores – “cast” helpless (back)
- 3b The Shepherd has a plan “he leadeth me”, place “in the paths of righteousness”, purpose “for his name’s sake”
- 4a The Shepherd has conquered death
- 4b The Shepherd is powerful – rod and staff
- 5a The Shepherd is responsible for feeding the sheep (supplying)
- 5b The Shepherd wants us to have abundance of life by the Holy Spirit (oil)
- 6a Goodness and mercy follow us as we follow the Shepherd
- 6b We can spend forever with our Shepherd
