12 The Tenth Commandment

12 The Tenth Commandment

The Tenth Commandment

Exodus 20

Seven times in this verse God reminds us not to covet

This commandment is not obvious when broken

It goes straight to the heart and deals with desire

James 1:14-15

Luke 12:13-21

The coveting heart is always earthward, towards things not heavenly

He gave thought to his body, not his soul

He gave thought to time, not eternity

He gave thought of worship to himself and not God

Hebrews 13:5

When we covet, we remove the Lord

We put our thoughts and ambitions above the Lord

The Command Not to Covet

To covet is against God

It begins with a thought

It is the most obvious in the ministry when something is the goal other then God

Joshua 7:22-26 Achan

II Samuel 11-12 David and Bathsheba

The Concealment of the Sin

Romans 7:7

The Contentment God gives to Change our Desire

Sin is open rebellion to God

The way to prohibit the act is to change the desire

Colossians 3:15; I Timothy 6:6 All sin starts with one thought that is not dealt with

II Corinthians 10:1-5

Philippians 4:11

Contentment is the only thing that deals with covetousness

Is Christ enough?
