Verbal Plenary Inspiration

II Peter 1:16-21

Peter is recalling the time he was a witness of the Lord’s transfiguration. As wonderful was that event way, it is much better to have a completed copy of the Word of God. Experience is not as good the Bible.

The word scripture means “holy writings”. It carries the idea that this is God’s words.

The Bible writers were moved by God to write down exactly what God desired them to write down.

 

Verbal

The word verbal carries the idea of “word for word”. When used with inspiration it carries the further idea of the very words. God gave the exact words of scripture.

Plenary

Plenary means “full”. Referring to inspiration it carries the idea of “each and every”

Inspiration

Means God breathed

The human writers realized God was giving them the words.
